About - Nellie and the Cat

We’re all doing our best and WE’VE GOT THIS!

New (and not so new) parenthood can be a lonely game, one where the rules change constantly.

There are so many different opinions on how you should be doing things that you can easily lose your confidence and feel like you’re not doing things the “right” way.

It really helps to know that someone is thinking of you and cheering you on, even from far away.

Nellie and the Cat was born just after my first daughter’s birth when I began creating and selling my own range of silicone mama necklaces. Almost from the start, I realised I was often sending gift orders from women to new mums that included encouraging notes, like “you’re an amazing mum” and I realised that it can mean so much to receive some words of encouragement when motherhood feels isolating and confusing.

So the ‘You’ve Got This Mama’ mug was created, with artwork by the super talented Peachy Rebel and now hundreds of mums wake up with a pep talk from their morning cuppa!

But I knew that as important as kind words are, I wanted to help more so from the beginning I have been donating $5 from every mug sold to charities that help mums.

Since 2015 I have been able to donate more than $4000 to charities including the Australian Red Cross, the Luke Batty Foundation, Love Your Sister, and now PANDA (Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia).

1 in 5 expecting or new mums and 1 in 10 expecting or new dads will suffer from perinatal anxiety or depression - that’s where PANDA comes in with Australia’s only National Helpline dedicated to helping individuals and their families recover.

So when you buy a You’ve Got This Mama or #DADLIFE mug (dads need a pep talk too!) you know that your gift is giving twice.

I’ve had my fair share of self-doubt and mum fails. I’ve forgotten the nappies, the wipes, the spare clothes and the lunch box. Mount Washmore is a permanent attraction at our house, the kids are screen fiends and have become chicken nugget connoisseurs.

But I’ve realised there’s no such thing as a perfect parent, we’re all humans doing the best we can and if this mug can help remind you or someone you love then my work here is done :)

Thank you for visiting!
